’77 Million Paintings’ is a generative work that treats the television screen and the monitor as the frame of a painting in constant evolution. The image is generated automatically from three hundred pictures, paintings, slide prints and audio pieces the artist made over twenty years of interdisciplinary work.

Software designed for the piece processes the visual and sonic material arbitrarily, in sequences of unpredictable length. Eno holds that the possible combinations are infinite, and that the texture and sensations it produces are his way of understanding information. The result is a shifting abstraction that offers each person a unique experience.
